Показано, что если диэлектрическая и магнитная проницаемости случайно меняются от слоя к слою, при том что характеристический импеданс всех слоев одинаков, то индекс Ляпунова (величина обратно пропорциональная длине локализации) растет с углом падения и не зависит от поляризации падающей волны. Это свойство является статистическим, так как в отдельно взятой конечной реализации коэффициенты прохождения для s- и p-поляризованного света различны.
