In that type of quantum random generation system, optical beam splitters with two inputs and two outputs are normally used. A comparison of Y-splitter and spatial beam splitters shows that for two types of optical splitters, the quantum mathematical description of output signals is identical. This allows the use of fiber Y-splitters in practical QRNG schemes. The possibility of generating true random bits was demonstrated experimentally by using quantum random number generator based on homodyne detection.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>quantum random number generation</kwd><kwd>beam splitter</kwd><kwd>Y-splitter</kwd><kwd>vacuum fluctuations</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="en">This work was financially supported by Government of Russian Federation, Grant 074-U01 and by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation (projects No. 14.578.21.0112, No. 02.G25.31.0229).</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Scarany V., Bechmann-Pasquinucci H., et al.
