The results of thermodynamic prediction on the possibility and conditions of sustainable existence of TiO2 with the rutile structure have been confirmed in experiments.</p></abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>nanoparticles</kwd><kwd>TiO2</kwd><kwd>anatase</kwd><kwd>retile</kwd><kwd>thermodynamic analyses</kwd><kwd>structural transformations</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The author would like to thank Prof. V.
